RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 453 is a non-functional, non-coding RNA segment annotated as a pseudogene of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2][4]. Functional 5S rRNA is a small, ~120-nucleotide structural RNA incorporated into the large subunit of ribosomes, crucial for ribosome stability and function in translation[1][3][5]. However, as a pseudogene, RNA5SP453 no longer codes for a functional RNA product and does not participate in ribosome assembly or function. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP453 arise from gene duplications or retrotransposition events that have accumulated mutations which prevent them from producing a functional gene product[6]. Such sequences are not considered therapeutic targets nor are they known to be used as biomarkers, have safety concerns, or show interactions with small molecules or drugs.
