Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 459 is a processed pseudogene—a DNA sequence derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene, but rendered nonfunctional by mutations acquired after integration into the genome[3][4]. While canonical 5S rRNA plays critical structural and functional roles as part of the ribosomal large subunit in protein synthesis[1][5], the RNA5SP459 locus does not produce a functional ribosomal RNA molecule because pseudogenes are by definition nonfunctional genomic elements[2][4]. Processed pseudogenes such as RNA5SP459 typically lack introns, can reside far from their parent loci, and do not have a promoter, so they are not normally expressed[2][4]. There is no evidence to date for a direct biological or pharmacological role for RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 459, and it is not considered a therapeutic target[3][4]. Notes on correctness: This entity is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or any targetable molecule—rather, it is a noncoding, nonfunctional processed pseudogene[3][4]. If input as a therapeutic target, this would be incorrect. It should not be used as a drug target or for patient stratification. If you require information on functional ribosomal RNA (such as 5S rRNA), you should refer to canonical genes or ribosomal protein products instead[1][5][7].
