RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 471 (RNA5SP471) is a processed pseudogene derived from the gene encoding 5S ribosomal RNA, a structural component of the large ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes, including RNA5SP471, are genomic elements that resemble known genes but harbor mutations or structural rearrangements that render them non-functional in terms of traditional gene expression (i.e. they do not produce a functional RNA or protein product). While some pseudogenes have been shown to regulate gene networks or serve as competitive endogenous RNAs, most do not have a direct biological function, and RNA5SP471 has not been convincingly linked to any specific biological or disease role. Thus, it is not considered a relevant receptor, enzyme, or other druggable therapeutic target.
