RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 476 is a member of the class of rRNA pseudogenes in the human genome. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic DNA sequences that arise from mutations, genetic duplication, or retrotransposition and typically carry high sequence homology to their functional counterparts, but lack protein-coding potential or expression[2][4]. Specifically, 5S ribosomal RNA (5S rRNA) is a small RNA component of the ribosome involved in the structural organization of the large ribosomal subunit and protein synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes[1][3][5]. However, the pseudogene "RNA5SP476" is predicted to be a non-functional copy of the 5S rRNA gene and does not encode a functional RNA molecule or protein. Pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed or play regulatory roles in gene networks, but for most rRNA pseudogenes, including "RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 476", there is no direct evidence of biological function or disease association[2][4]. These elements are irrelevant as drug targets, have no known biomarkers, interact with no approved drugs, and pose no safety or therapeutic challenges.
