Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 514 (RNA5SP514) is a member of the family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes. Unlike functional 5S rRNA, which is an essential non-coding RNA component of the large ribosomal subunit required for ribosome structure and function[1][5], RNA5SP514 is a processed pseudogene, presumed to originate from a retrotransposition event of an ancestral 5S rRNA gene[2][4]. It lacks the ability to encode for a functional RNA or protein and does not contribute directly to ribosomal activity or protein synthesis in the cell. Processed pseudogenes like RNA5SP514 generally do not have promoters or regulatory sequences, are typically not transcribed, and do not have known physiologic functions, though rare pseudogenes can act in gene regulation at the RNA level in specific contexts[2][6]. There are no current indications that RNA5SP514 has clinical, diagnostic, or therapeutic relevance[3][6].
