Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 62 (RNA5SP62) is a non-functional pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes (which encode the highly conserved structural component of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis), pseudogenes typically do not produce functional RNA molecules or proteins. However, in some cases across the genome, pseudogenes can have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as antisense RNAs, small interfering RNAs, or competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), influencing the expression of their parent genes or other molecular pathways[4]. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP62 is a therapeutic target, nor are there mutations, inhibitors, or activators associated with this specific pseudogene. Its primary significance is as a member of the large family of ribosomal RNA pseudogenes found in mammalian genomes, often used as genomic markers or in studies of genome evolution, but not as functional biosynthetic or regulatory molecules[2][4].
