Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 63 (RNA5SP63) is a member of a large family of 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) pseudogenes in the human genome. In contrast to functional 5S rRNA genes, which produce a small, highly conserved RNA essential for ribosome function and protein synthesis[1][3][7], RNA5SP63 is a non-functional "pseudogene" variant that does not encode a functional rRNA molecule and is not incorporated into ribosomes[2]. Like other pseudogenes, RNA5SP63 may have regulatory roles at the RNA level—potentially impacting gene regulation by acting as a source of antisense transcripts, competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), or interacting with RNA-binding proteins—but there is no evidence for any specific function or disease association for this pseudogene[4][6]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs, mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or safety concerns directly associated with RNA5SP63.
