RNA5SP79
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 79 (RNA5SP79) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome and closely related in sequence to the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Like other 5S rRNA pseudogenes, it does not encode for a ribosomal RNA used in ribosome biogenesis or function. Pseudogenes in general are typically non-functional remnants of once-active genes, though some can be transcribed and, in rare cases, may participate in regulatory interactions at the RNA level, such as acting as antisense RNAs or sources of small interfering RNAs affecting parental gene expression[2][4][6]. However, there is no evidence that RNA5SP79 possesses such regulatory function, nor is it recognized as a target in drug discovery, disease pathology, or as a biomarker. It is reported in genomic databases as an annotated pseudogene[5].

Mechanism of action

None (No drug mechanism, although in rare cases, pseudogene RNAs may mediate gene silencing through RNA interference or competitively bind miRNAs, these activities are context-dependent and not established for RNA5SP79)

03

Biological functions

Other (Acts as a genomic pseudogene, potential transcription to non-functional non-coding RNAs)Possible regulatory function at the RNA level, as some pseudogenes may generate antisense RNAs or small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) that can modulate parental gene expression in rare instances
04

Disease associations

Other (While some pseudogenes are implicated in disease through RNA-level regulatory effects, there is no evidence for RNA5SP79 in any disease role)No direct association with cancer, inflammation, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular disease, or infection.
05

Safety considerations

None (No safety or therapeutic concerns are associated with RNA5SP79, as it is not a target for intervention)
06

Interacting drugs

None (No known drugs interact with RNA5SP79 or other 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes)
07

Biomarkers

None (Not recognized as a biomarker for disease or therapy)
