RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 104, pseudogene (RN7SL104P) is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which codes for the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[6]. The 7SL RNA is a non-coding RNA that plays a critical role as a scaffold for SRP assembly and is involved in the co-translational translocation of proteins by mediating their recognition and targeting to specific cellular membranes[1][3][5]. However, RN7SL104P itself is a pseudogene—an inactivated, typically non-functional copy of the ancestral *7SL RNA* gene, created via the reverse transcription of RNA into DNA and reintegration into the genome[6]. Most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL104P, do not produce functional RNA or proteins and have no established biological function or disease relevance[6]. The authentic, functional 7SL RNA is part of the SRP complex critical for protein trafficking, but pseudogenes like RN7SL104P are best classified as genomic relics which serve mainly as evolutionary markers; they are not therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or other druggable protein classes[6].
