RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 12, pseudogene (RN7SL12P) is a processed pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes a structural RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex[4][6]. The majority of 7SL RNA-like sequences in the human genome are pseudogenes that are truncated and generally nonfunctional; these result from the integration of reverse-transcribed RNA back into DNA[6]. RN7SL12P, like other 7SL pseudogenes, does not code for a functional transcript and is not known to have a direct biological role, nor is it considered a therapeutic target or receptor[4][6]. The canonical 7SL RNA is involved in the SRP pathway, essential for directing certain proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, but RN7SL12P itself is an inactive genomic sequence and does not participate in this pathway[6][4].
