Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 123, pseudogene (RN7SL123P) is a member of a large family of non-coding RNA pseudogenes that share similarity with the functional 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). While functional 7SL RNA plays essential roles in the cotranslational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, the vast majority of 7SL-like loci in the human genome, including RN7SL123P, are pseudogenes. These pseudogenes are typically truncated, rearranged, or otherwise lack features required for biological function and are generally considered non-functional genomic elements that do not code for functional RNA or protein products. Most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL123P, are not transcribed or translated at appreciable levels and do not have established roles in human disease or therapeutic targeting[1][4][6][7].
