RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 124, pseudogene (RN7SL124P) is a human pseudogene related to the functional RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 1 (RN7SL1), which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). SRP is a ribonucleoprotein complex involved in cotranslational targeting of secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5]. As a pseudogene, RN7SL124P does not produce a functional RNA or protein, nor does it participate in SRP function or known signaling pathways. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL124P are considered non-functional genetic elements, although some pseudogenes have been shown to exert regulatory effects by acting as competing endogenous RNAs in certain contexts, particularly in cancer; for RN7SL124P specifically, there is no evidence for such a role[1][3][4].
