The functional 7SL RNA plays a role in protein trafficking by associating with SRP proteins to recognize and direct nascent polypeptides, but the pseudogene version (RN7SL127P) lacks this biological activity, is not transcribed into a functional product, and does not have an established physiological role[1][7]. As with most pseudogenes, RN7SL127P is not implicated in disease, does not serve as a biomarker or drug target, and is not associated with adverse effects[6][7]. RN7SL127P is a recognized pseudogene in the human genome, listed in curated genomic databases[1]. Pseudogenes can arise from reverse transcription and integration of functional RNAs back into genomic DNA, but such sequences are typically truncated or mutated and thus nonfunctional[6][7]. The ancestral gene, 7SL RNA, is well characterized and associated with the signal recognition particle; however, RN7SL127P lacks demonstrated function and is not related to clinical applications[3][5][7].
