Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 132, pseudogene (RN7SL132P) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence similar to the functional 7SL RNA gene, but lacking coding potential and unable to produce a functional RNA product[4][1][3]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL132P are typically truncated or mutated, resulting from the integration of reverse-transcribed RNA sequences into the genome or duplication and subsequent loss of function. While the parent 7SL RNA plays an essential architectural and regulatory role in the signal recognition particle (SRP)—which mediates protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum and is involved in cellular protein trafficking—pseudogenes such as RN7SL132P are transcriptionally silent or produce nonfunctional transcripts, with no demonstrated involvement in cellular signaling, disease processes, or response to therapeutics[4][3][1][6][5]. Their main relevance is as genetic fossils, and they do not function as receptors, enzymes, drug targets, or biomarkers.
