RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 149, pseudogene (RN7SL149P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the family of 7SL RNA-derived sequences. The 7SL RNA is a central non-coding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which facilitates proper targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. However, RN7SL149P itself is a processed, nonfunctional pseudogene copy of 7SL RNA and is not known to be transcribed into functional RNA or protein. Hundreds of similar 7SL RNA pseudogenes exist in the human genome, almost all arising from reverse transcription and genomic insertion of RNA intermediates, often with truncations and mutations rendering them nonfunctional. RN7SL149P, according to current evidence, does not perform any biological or therapeutic function and is not a drug target.
