RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 15, pseudogene (RN7SL15P) is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][3][4]. Unlike functional 7SL RNA genes, RN7SL15P is a non-coding, truncated or otherwise disabled sequence that arose from the reverse transcription and genomic integration of 7SL RNA, lacking the capacity to produce a functional RNA product[1][3]. Nearly all human 7SL RNA-like sequences are pseudogenes, which exist in high copy number in the genome and do not contribute directly to SRP function or other known biological processes[3]. While functional 7SL RNA is involved in the co-translational targeting of proteins to endoplasmic reticulum membranes, pseudogenes like RN7SL15P do not participate in this or any established biological pathway[1][3][4]. Pseudogene-derived RNAs can sometimes act as regulatory non-coding RNAs or microRNA sponges, but there is no current evidence that RN7SL15P has any such role[2]. It is not considered a therapeutic target (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), and there are no known drugs, biomarker roles, or disease implications for this locus[1].
