The canonical 7SL RNA forms the structural RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which is essential for co-translational targeting and translocation of secretory and membrane proteins. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL154P are highly homologous but are generally nonfunctional copies and do not participate in SRP formation or canonical signal recognition processes. While some pseudogenes influence cellular processes by modulating RNA-binding proteins or acting as miRNA sponges, there is no specific evidence that RN7SL154P has such roles.
