RN7SL156P is a human pseudogene derived from 7SL RNA, which is the noncoding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex. The SRP system is essential in cells for cotranslational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, with the functional 7SL RNA playing a direct architectural and regulatory role in SRP ribonucleoprotein assembly, translation elongation arrest, and translocation to the endoplasmic reticulum. However, RN7SL156P is one of the hundreds of 7SL pseudogenes scattered throughout the human genome, generated primarily as truncated nonfunctional copies via reverse transcription events. These pseudogenes do not encode functional 7SL RNA and are generally believed not to participate in SRP function or protein targeting; most are silent, not expressed, and their biological relevance is limited or unknown. Although some pseudogenes in other gene families can act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), regulate gene expression, sponge microRNAs, or impact cancer and other diseases, there is no evidence for a specific biological, disease, or regulatory function of RN7SL156P itself. It is not recognized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other canonical drug target class. RN7SL156P is a noncoding pseudogene, not a functional molecule or drug target. Its existence reflects genomic duplication and retrotransposition phenomena, but it currently lacks biological or therapeutic relevance.
