Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 166, pseudogene (RN7SL166P) is a pseudogene belonging to the family of 7SL RNA-related sequences[1][9]. The canonical 7SL RNA is an essential non-coding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex that mediates cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[6][8]. However, pseudogenes such as RN7SL166P are typically non-functional, generally not expressed, and do not encode active RNA molecules or proteins[1][9]. 7SL RNA pseudogenes are believed to arise by retrotransposition events and constitute a significant portion of Alu repetitive elements in primate genomes[9][6]. To date, RN7SL166P itself has no recognized biological function, disease role, or relevance as a therapeutic target in human biology or pharmacology[1][9].
