RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic pseudogene 181 (RN7SL181P) is a human genomic pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) responsible for co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum. The pseudogene is a non-functional, sequence-similar copy of the 7SL RNA gene, harboring mutations or truncations that preclude its normal expression or function. While canonical 7SL RNA (not pseudogene) is a well-described lncRNA with architectural roles in SRP assembly and viral packaging processes, pseudogenes like RN7SL181P typically lack any known biological or disease role and are not considered drug targets nor molecular biomarkers. Evidence suggests some pseudogenes can act as decoys or regulatory elements in rare cases, but there is no documentation of biological activity for RN7SL181P specifically.
