RN7SL230P is a processed pseudogene in the human genome similar to the 7SL RNA sequence, but it is truncated, mutated, and not expressed as a functional RNA. 7SL RNA itself is a non-coding RNA and an essential component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) for protein translocation, but RN7SL230P and the majority of 7SL pseudogenes have no coding potential and appear silent in cells. These loci arise from reverse transcription of 7SL RNA and insertion back into the genome, but are characterized by truncations, mutations, and poor conservation. Processed pseudogenes like RN7SL230P are not considered molecular targets for drug intervention, nor are they involved in cellular function or disease
