Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 238, pseudogene (RN7SL238P) is a pseudogene that represents a nonfunctional, non-coding genomic remnant derived from the 7SL RNA gene family, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) responsible for co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][7][6]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL238P generally do not encode functional products and are not considered therapeutic targets. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed and may exert regulatory impacts via mechanisms such as acting as microRNA decoys or sources of small interfering RNAs, there is no evidence that RN7SL238P itself serves as a therapeutic target or has well-established biological or disease associations[4][7]. Its primary classification is that of a non-coding RNA pseudogene, and it shares homology with the RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 1 (RN7SL1) gene, the authentic functional SRP RNA gene[5][8]. Some pseudogenes are deregulated in cancer or neurodegeneration, but there is no evidence specific to RN7SL238P[7][4].
