RN7SL239P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 239, pseudogene) is a member of the family of pseudogenes derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) in eukaryotes. Pseudogenes are generally non-functional gene copies or fragments that may arise by duplication or retrotransposition and lack protein-coding ability. In rare cases, pseudogenes may exert biological effects through regulation of RNA stability, miRNA binding, or other RNA-mediated mechanisms; however, RN7SL239P itself has not been shown to have any such function. Its primary clinical relevance is as a marker in genomics studies rather than as a therapeutic target. The functional 7SL RNA is essential for cotranslational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum, but pseudogene copies like RN7SL239P do not contribute to these processes[1][4][5].
