RN7SL254P is a human pseudogene classified as a non-coding RNA derived from the functional 7SL RNA gene, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][5]. The functional 7SL RNA plays a key role in directing proteins to cellular membranes by halting translation and interacting with the SRP receptor to allow translocation of secretory and membrane proteins[1]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL254P are generated by duplication or retrotransposition events and are characterized by high sequence similarity to the functional gene, but they lack activity and do not produce functional RNA or protein products[2][4][5]. Although some pseudogenes can regulate the expression of their parental genes by acting as miRNA sponges or competing for RNA-binding proteins[4], there is no evidence that RN7SL254P has such a role. There are several hundred 7SL RNA-like pseudogenes in the human genome, most of which are truncated and diverse in structure[5]. RN7SL254P does not function as a protein target or a therapeutic molecule. The parent molecule, 7SL RNA, is conserved and essential for SRP function[1]. Any biological or therapeutic functions are attributed to the active 7SL RNA and SRP proteins, *not* to RN7SL254P[1][3].
