RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 259, pseudogene (RN7SL259P)

Target
RN7SL259P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene), Noncoding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RN7SL259P is a pseudogene in the human genome derived from the 7SL RNA gene (which codes for the RNA component of signal recognition particle, SRP). While 7SL RNA is essential for protein translocation, RN7SL259P is one of many dispersed, truncated, and nonfunctional copies known as pseudogenes. These arise from the integration of reverse-transcribed 7SL RNA fragments into new genomic loci, leading to sequences that cannot produce functional RNA nor participate in physiological processes. Only a few 7SL-related loci in humans remain functional; most are pseudogenes such as RN7SL259P and have no protein, receptor, or enzymatic function
