RN7SL26P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 26, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene—a genomic DNA sequence that resembles the functional 7SL RNA (signal recognition particle RNA) gene but is non-functional[4][6]. The 7SL RNA is a critical component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), playing an architectural and regulatory role in directing nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane[3][5]. However, the majority of 7SL RNA-like sequences in the human genome, including RN7SL26P, are truncated or mutated copies that have lost functional activity, typically as a result of reverse transcription and genomic insertion events[6][1][4]. As a pseudogene, RN7SL26P does not encode a functional RNA or protein product, is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or any typical therapeutic target, and has no known biological function or disease role[4][5][6]. There are hundreds of 7SL pseudogenes in the human genome; they commonly complicate genetic studies due to their sequence similarity with functional genes[4][6].
