Overview

RN7SL272P is a pseudogene of the 7SL RNA family, annotated as "RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 272, pseudogene". The canonical functional gene, 7SL RNA, is a highly conserved noncoding RNA essential as part of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which plays a crucial role in guiding newly-synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum for proper processing and localization[1][3][7]. However, RN7SL272P is a pseudogene, which means it is a genomic sequence similar to a functional gene but carries disabling mutations and is not itself functional. Such 7SL pseudogenes are abundant in mammalian genomes; they result from reverse transcription of 7SL RNA and integration into the genome, but do not produce functional RNA or protein products and are not involved in the canonical SRP pathway[9][6][8]. Thus, RN7SL272P is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target, and there is no evidence implicating it in disease or as a drug target or biomarker. Pseudogenes like RN7SL272P are mainly of evolutionary and genomic interest; large numbers are found throughout the human genome, typically identified but not associated with direct biological or clinical functions[9][4][6].
