Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 283, pseudogene (RN7SL283P) is a pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, which itself is a structural RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The SRP is critical for targeting secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA genes, RN7SL pseudogenes are generally non-coding genomic sequences derived from reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA transcripts. These pseudogenes do not produce functional RNA or protein and do not play an active biological role[1][2][4][5][8]. The majority of 7SL-like sequences in the human genome, including RN7SL283P, are such pseudogenes and are not expressed or involved in therapeutic or biological pathways[1][4][5][8].
