RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 288, pseudogene (RN7SL288P)

Target
RN7SL288P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA family (signal recognition particle RNA, related)
01

Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 288, pseudogene (RN7SL288P), is a pseudogene in the human genome, related in sequence to the 7SL RNA (signal recognition particle RNA). 7SL RNA is an essential non-coding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which directs nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation. RN7SL288P, however, is one of many dispersed truncated copies generated by reverse transcription events of 7SL RNA and does not encode a functional RNA or protein product. While most 7SL pseudogenes are considered transcriptionally inactive, some pseudogenes in general can exert post-transcriptional regulatory effects by acting as decoys or regulatory RNAs; specific regulatory function for RN7SL288P has not been described.

Other names
RN7SL288PRNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 288, pseudogene
02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable, as this is not a functional protein or a drug target.

03

Biological functions

Largely nonfunctional as a protein-coding gene.May have regulatory roles at the RNA level, as some pseudogenes are known to interact with gene expression and RNA-binding proteins.
04

Disease associations

No direct disease role established for RN7SL288P. In general, pseudogenes may influence cancer or other diseases by their regulatory RNA effects, but this is not described for RN7SL288P specifically.
