RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 304, pseudogene (RN7SL304P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene[4][7]. It is part of a large family derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which provides the RNA core for the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex essential for directing nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][2]. Unlike functional 7SL RNA genes, pseudogenes like RN7SL304P are generally considered to be nonfunctional, containing inactivating mutations or truncations that prevent their expression or canonical role in SRP assembly. Most 7SL-derived pseudogenes, including RN7SL304P, do not code for functional proteins or participate in established regulatory functions, and there is no evidence to support a role as a therapeutic target or biomarker[2][4][7]. However, emerging research highlights that some pseudogenes may have noncoding RNA-based regulatory activities or structural genome functions, but for RN7SL304P specifically, such roles have not been experimentally demonstrated[6].
