Overview

RN7SL313P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA family, which provides the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) responsible for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes. The human genome contains hundreds of 7SL-like sequences, but the vast majority—including RN7SL313P—are classified as pseudogenes: DNA elements that are similar to functional genes but are non-functional due to mutations, truncations, or lack of expression. These pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription of RNA back into the genome and are not known to have biological roles as proteins or regulatory RNAs[1][3][4][5]. There is no evidence that RN7SL313P acts as a receptor, enzyme, or otherwise serves as a therapeutic target in medicine. Context: - Pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed into RNA at low levels, though most have no functional significance[4]. Rarely, pseudogenes can confer regulatory effects, but this has not been shown for RN7SL313P. - Confusion may arise with the functional 7SL RNA gene, whose RNA product is involved in protein sorting and is linked to cell proliferation and cancer through regulatory interactions, but RN7SL pseudogenes are generally regarded as non-functional and not implicated in such processes[3][5][6]. - 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL313P, can present technical challenges in genetic research, such as complications in PCR primer design due to sequence similarity to functional genes[4]. RN7SL313P should be considered a non-functional pseudogene and not a therapeutic target.
