RN7SL316P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 316, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene corresponding to a non-coding RNA of the 7SL RNA family. The 7SL RNA is a key RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which plays a central role in targeting proteins to membranes. However, RN7SL316P is a pseudogene — a genomic segment with sequence similarity to functional 7SL RNA genes but lacking the ability to produce a functional RNA or protein product. Such 7SL-derived pseudogenes arise from the reverse transcription and reintegration of 7SL RNA sequences into the genome, and are typically transcriptionally inactive and nonfunctional. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions, RN7SL316P is not classified as a therapeutic target, has no known biological function, is not associated with disease, and has no known drug interactions.
