Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 333, pseudogene (RN7SL333P), is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is one of many dispersed copies derived from the 7SL RNA (the RNA component of the signal recognition particle). Unlike the functional 7SL RNA gene, RN7SL333P does not encode a functional RNA product and is not transcribed or involved in physiological SRP-mediated protein targeting[3][6][7][9]. The vast majority of 7SL RNA–like sequences in the human genome are such pseudogenes, which are considered evolutionary remnants resulting from reverse transcription, often present as truncated or mutated forms lacking gene function[3][7]. While some pseudogenes in other gene families may produce regulatory RNAs with gene network effects[6][8], there is no evidence that RN7SL333P itself is functional or therapeutically relevant.
