These pseudogenes are truncated reverse-transcribed genomic copies of the 7SL RNA—the noncoding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), an essential ribonucleoprotein complex for co-translational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][2][4][5]. While a small number of 7SL genes are functional and encode the SRP RNA, the vast majority, including RN7SL336P, are unexpressed or non-functional, lacking coding capacity and independently known biological activity. These pseudogenes are products of ancient genomic retrotransposition events and generally do not participate in cellular signaling or disease processes. The 7SL pseudogene family is notable mainly for illustrating the genomic diversity and mobility of noncoding RNA elements rather than serving as active therapeutic or biomarker targets[1][2][4][5].
