RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 366, pseudogene (RN7SL366P) is one of hundreds of 7SL RNA-derived pseudogenes widely dispersed in the human genome. Pseudogenes of 7SL RNA arise via molecular events such as reverse transcription from mature SRP RNA and insertion into DNA. These sequences are generally truncated and non-functional, lacking the ability to code for proteins or contribute to canonical SRP complex function. While the parental 7SL RNA has an essential role in protein translocation as part of the signal recognition particle complex, RN7SL366P and related pseudogenes do not; the vast majority are considered genomic 'fossils'. Pseudogenes may occasionally undergo transcription and play a role as non-coding RNAs, although there is no evidence that RN7SL366P itself is functionally relevant. RN7SL366P is not a functional receptor, transporter, or enzyme, nor is it recognized as a direct disease risk locus or drug target. It is located at cytogenetic band 6q26 in the human genome.
