Target
RN7SL37P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA pseudogene

Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 37, pseudogene (RN7SL37P) is classified as a processed pseudogene—a genomic DNA segment that resembles the functional 7SL RNA, a key component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), but cannot produce a functional RNA or protein product. Pseudogenes arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate mutations that inactivate them. While the functional 7SL RNA plays a central role in protein targeting and translocation within cells, pseudogenes like RN7SL37P have lost these physiological activities. There is no evidence suggesting RN7SL37P has any role in disease, drug interaction, or clinical biomarker utility. It is not considered a therapeutic target, and its presence may complicate molecular studies due to sequence similarity to functional genes, potentially causing PCR or sequencing bias.
