RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 372, pseudogene (RN7SL372P) is a human pseudogene corresponding to a non-coding RNA sequence that resembles the 7SL RNA, which forms the RNA backbone of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][3][6][7][8]. The SRP is a ribonucleoprotein complex essential for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, but RN7SL372P itself is a truncated and inactivated copy, unable to encode functional 7SL RNA or participate in protein translocation. Most human 7SL RNA-like sequences, including RN7SL372P, are classified as pseudogenes—genomic relics formed via reverse transcription and integration or genomic duplication events—which lack the regulatory elements or full-length sequence required for transcription and biological activity[3][6][7]. While some pseudogenes in general have been reported to act as regulatory RNAs (e.g., serving as microRNA decoys or sources of siRNAs), this regulatory function is not established for RN7SL372P specifically[2][3][4]. Consequently, it is not considered a therapeutic target, has no known direct role in disease, and does not interact with drugs or serve as a biomarker[1][3][6][7].
