It is derived from sequence elements similar to the functional 7SL RNA, which is a component of the signal recognition particle responsible for directing secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. Unlike its parent sequence (7SL RNA), RN7SL384P does not encode an active RNA or protein and is not transcribed to a functional molecule. Pseudogenes like RN7SL384P typically arise via retrotransposition, where an mRNA copy is inserted back into the genome and consequently rendered nonfunctional due to loss of coding capacity and regulatory elements. Though some pseudogenes may have regulatory effects on gene expression in specific contexts, there is no evidence or literature to suggest any specific biological, therapeutic, or disease-related role for RN7SL384P itself.
