Overview

RN7SL395P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 395, pseudogene) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, homologous to the functional 7SL RNA gene. The 7SL RNA is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which is essential for cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][3]. However, unlike functional 7SL RNA, pseudogenes like RN7SL395P do not code for functional RNAs or proteins due to accumulated mutations or truncations[4][5][7][8]. Most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL395P, are genomic "relics" resulting from reverse transcription and reintegration events, and are generally not transcribed or functional[7]. There are no current reports of direct involvement of RN7SL395P in disease, no evidence that it encodes proteins, serves as a therapeutic target, or is a biomarker or subject of drug modulation[4][5][8]. Some pseudogenes in general can exert regulatory effects on their parental gene’s expression through RNA interference or acting as miRNA decoys, but there is no evidence that RN7SL395P has such functions[2][6].

Biological functions

None independently established (pseudogenes may, in general, regulate gene expression through various RNA-mediated mechanisms in other cases)
03

Disease associations

None specifically documented (parental 7SL RNA has been implicated in cancer, immune response, and neurodegeneration; however, there is no evidence for this pseudogene itself)
