RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 40, pseudogene (RN7SL40P) is a noncoding RNA pseudogene related to the functional 7SL RNA, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) which is central to protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes[5]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL40P arise from duplication or retrotransposition events but generally lack the ability to produce functional RNA or protein products due to disabling mutations[4][7]. Some pseudogenes can be transcribed and may act as regulatory noncoding RNAs—in some cases serving as sources of small interfering RNAs or microRNA decoys, thereby potentially modulating gene expression of related functional genes[2]. However, for most 7SL-related pseudogenes, including RN7SL40P, there is no documented molecular function or disease association, and they are not recognized as drug targets[4][7][3].
