Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 408, pseudogene (RN7SL408P) is a non-functional genomic segment that closely resembles the gene for 7SL RNA—the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes[3][5][1][7]. However, RN7SL408P itself does not provide this function; it is a processed pseudogene, one of many 7SL-like pseudogenes in the human genome resulting from reverse transcription events[7][6]. These pseudogenes typically have lost the ability to produce functional RNA products. Current evidence does not support a direct role for RN7SL408P in disease, drug interaction, or therapeutic targeting.
