RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 418, pseudogene (RN7SL418P) is a human gene classified as a processed pseudogene, originating from the 7SL RNA gene[1]. Unlike the canonical 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5], RN7SL418P does **not produce a functional product** due to mutations, truncations, or insertions acquired during retrotransposition. It is considered a **non-coding RNA pseudogene** and is not a protein, enzyme, receptor, or transporter, nor is it regarded as a therapeutic target[1][3]. The biological roles of most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL418P, are poorly characterized; while some pseudogenes may act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or serve regulatory functions by acting as miRNA sponges in some disease contexts, this behavior is not established for RN7SL418P itself[4]. RN7SL418P has no known interactions with drugs, no established clinical biomarker utility, and no associated safety concerns. It serves primarily as a genomic relic of processed pseudogene activity, enabling studies of genomic evolution and the history of RNA gene duplications[1].
