RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 42, pseudogene (RN7SL42P) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is related in sequence to the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][4][5]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL42P typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally not transcribed into functional RNA nor translated into proteins[2][3]. There is currently no evidence that RN7SL42P functions as a therapeutic target or has established roles in disease, drug interaction, or as a biomarker; it is primarily considered a noncoding, nonfunctional genomic sequence. Its designation as a "pseudogene" indicates it is a genetic relic without expected biological activity in most contexts[2][3][4].
