RN7SL44P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex, which is central to protein targeting in cells[6][2]. Functional 7SL RNA is an essential part of the SRP, responsible for mediating co-translational insertion of proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum, but RN7SL44P itself is a truncated, nonfunctional copy found in the human genome[6]. 7SL RNA pseudogenes are generated by reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA into DNA, typically losing regulatory regions and functional relevance. Most such pseudogenes do not contribute to cellular function, and there is no evidence that RN7SL44P has a role as a receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target[6][2]. The naming of RN7SL pseudogenes is often confused with genuine, functional 7SL RNA genes (such as RN7SL1), but only a subset of the many 7SL-like sequences in the human genome are true genes; the majority are pseudogene byproducts and do not participate in protein targeting or disease mechanisms[6].
