Overview

RN7SL462P is a human pseudogene that represents a non-functional, truncated genomic copy of the RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic gene. The canonical 7SL RNA is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex involved in guiding newly synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane for processing in eukaryotes. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA gene, pseudogenes such as RN7SL462P do not produce a functional RNA molecule and are generally not transcribed or otherwise biologically active. The human genome contains hundreds of 7SL-like pseudogenes, scattered throughout, created by the reverse transcription and genomic insertion of 7SL RNAs. These pseudogenes are considered genetic "fossil" without a direct protein-coding or regulatory function, and there is currently no evidence suggesting RN7SL462P functions as a therapeutic target or biomarker[1][4][5][6]. Important clarification: - The molecule is not a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or involved in signaling or disease directly. - The entry is primarily of relevance as a genetic artifact and has no known biological or pharmacological role[1][4][5][6].
