Overview

RN7SL472P is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 14. It is derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. Unlike the parental 7SL RNA gene, RN7SL472P is a non-functional, truncated, and genetically inert copy. 7SL RNA pseudogenes likely arose from reverse transcription events and are scattered throughout the human genome, but most are not expressed or functional. RN7SL472P, as a pseudogene, does not encode a functional receptor, protein, or RNA, nor does it contribute to critical cellular processes or disease. If further analysis is required for related sequences, refer to bona fide 7SL RNA genes, which have distinct biological functions in protein targeting and secretion.

Biological functions

Pseudogenes derived from 7SL RNA, including RN7SL472P, typically do not encode functional RNAs or proteins and have no known biological function. Some pseudogenes can, in rare cases, regulate gene expression through antisense RNA or miRNA sponging, but there is no evidence RN7SL472P does so
