Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 475, pseudogene (RN7SL475P) is a pseudogene located in the human genome that exhibits sequence homology to 7SL RNA, a critical non-coding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[6][5][3]. The canonical 7SL RNA plays an essential role in guiding nascent protein chains to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation by forming the core of the SRP complex[1]. However, RN7SL475P, like most 7SL RNA-derived pseudogenes, is considered a non-functional, non-protein-coding remnant that results from retrotransposition or genomic rearrangement events which have rendered it transcriptionally inactive or otherwise non-functional[3][5][7]. There is no evidence to suggest that RN7SL475P serves a direct biological function, acts as a therapeutic target, or is involved in clinically actionable disease processes[2][6]. 7SL pseudogenes might have roles as non-functional genomic elements, and there is ongoing research into possible regulatory or competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity for certain pseudogenes, but no such evidence directly exists for RN7SL475P[4].
