RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 478, pseudogene (RN7SL478P) is a human pseudogene that is part of a large family of genomic sequences derived from the 7SL RNA gene, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[4][1]. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA gene, pseudogenes such as RN7SL478P are generally non-coding; they are truncated or mutated copies that have arisen through retrotransposition—the reverse flow of genetic information from RNA back into genomic DNA[8][5][7]. The 7SL RNA itself is a conserved, functional non-coding RNA integral to the SRP, which guides protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3]. Thousands of 7SL pseudogene copies exist in the human genome, most of which, including RN7SL478P, do not produce functional RNA or protein products[5][7].
