Overview

RN7SL487P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) ribonucleoprotein complex[1][5][6][7]. Unlike functional 7SL RNA, which plays a critical role in the co-translational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, RN7SL487P is a truncated, non-functional genomic copy generated through the reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA. The majority of 7SL RNA-like sequences in human DNA are pseudogenes, and only a small number represent functional 7SL RNA genes[5][6][7]. RN7SL pseudogenes—including RN7SL487P—lack protein-coding potential and generally are not transcribed or functional; they do not serve as receptors, enzymes, or therapeutic targets. Their biological role is limited, though some pseudogenes in other families have been implicated secondarily in gene regulation, cancer, or other diseases, usually via miRNA interaction or as competing endogenous RNAs[2][4].
