Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 49, pseudogene (RN7SL49P) is a pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which is a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex involved in the cotranslational targeting of secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][1][4]. 7SL RNA pseudogenes, of which there are many copies in the human genome, typically arise from reverse transcription events and are generally not expressed or functional; they do not encode protein and do not function as receptors, enzymes, or other canonical drug targets[4]. RN7SL49P itself is one of these nonfunctional genomic sequences with sequence similarity to the functional 7SL RNA gene, but has no known biological function or disease association, and is not a therapeutic target[4].
